Sometimes when we get invited to parties, weddings and other celebrations one of the first things that comes in to our minds (“other than am I free on that day” or “what should I wear?”) is “what should I give them as a gift?”. Finding a gift for someone is not at all easy. Sure you can get a general gift and be done with the gift obligations. But if you want to make sure that your gift is liked and remembered not to mention useful then you must put in slightly more effort on the ‘thinking’ part.
First of all think of the occasion. What is the occasion that requires you to get a gift? (Is it an anniversary, birthday, wedding, graduation party etc.). A gift should be bought to suit the occasion. If it’s an anniversary or a wedding it is unfair to buy and gift something only one person in the couple will use and can use.
Then you must think of the personal preferences of the individual to who you are gifting something. A gift is something to make someone happy and if the person doesn’t like it then the sole purpose of giving a gift is lost. Sometimes you may think that you have bought a cool present to see that the person for whom you bought it might actually have to pretend to like it just to be polite. Our standards and tastes are not always similar to that of the others. So when buying a gift you must be at least slightly aware of the personality and likes of the person for whom you are buying it for.
Another thing to be considered very carefully is the usefulness of the gift. If it’s just a souvenir then it doesn’t have to serve any purpose than to serve as a memory. But if you want to get something that the person can use then you must think of the things that they will frequently use. The usefulness changes from person to person, situation to situation and from one age category to that of another. Buy something that they will enjoy using and will have the need to use. For an example if you are buying a present for a slightly older person on their anniversary you can buy a massager. There are different types of sophisticated massagers in the market such as the electronic pulse massager. They have wide varieties of functions and if you just read through the brochure you will understand what kind of a massager you may need. These come with a hand manual to guide you on how to use it step by step in an easy and simple way. You don’t have to be a professional to operate it. Both spouses can use it and it will come in handy when they have muscle pain which is a frequent occurrence in old age.
A gift doesn’t have to have a huge price tag. It is the thought that matters. Put some thought and love in to the gift. Personalize it and give it to the person to show that you care.
